Anyone looking for a free and open source operating system to run Windows applications and drivers

About ReactOS

ReactOS is an operating system. Our own main features are that ReactOS is able to run Windows software, and it is also able to run Windows drivers. ReactOS looks-like Windows, and it is free and open source. ReactOS is a free and open source operating system written from scratch. Its design is based on Windows in the same way Linux is based on Unix, however ReactOS is not Linux. ReactOS looks and feels like Windows, is able to your run all your Windows applications and software, as well as all your Windows drivers, and is familiar to Windows users. You can create your own ReactOS versions! You’re using Open Source software daily if you use Firefox, LibreOffice, OpenOffice, GNU-Linux distributions among zillions of Open Source projects out there. The Open Source projects, as ReactOS, are driven for and by its Community, so being active translating, donating, or coding is a way to help ReactOS boost forward.

"I'm only interested in the Beta and Final Product of ReactOS!"

    Posted 2023-03-07

Pros: I've no doubt they added a Windows XP-theme to it, but I'd like the ability to choose Interface colors such as Red, School-Bus Orange, Yellow, Lime, Green, Turquoise, Windows-XP Blue, Blue-Violet, Violet(not synonymous with Purple), Pink, Vintage-Beige, Chocolate Brown, Carbon-Fiber Black, Windows-XP Silver & Copy-Paper White to apply.

    Cons: The Alpha-stage email updates!
Why don't more people with fatter wallets than mine pitch in so that ReactOS can reach Beta-stage already, it's already 2023 and I want a finished product THIS YEAR!

Overall: I can only take this open-source OS seriously once it has reached Beta-stage!
In the meantime, I'm quite safely running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on my laptop and custom-built AMD-based PC!

    "Using ReactOS at home"

    Posted 2022-05-30

Pros: Well, it's free, and the OS can run a lot of stuff, like the game Skyrim and Microsoft Office. I also managed to use it to print and to use photoshop.

Cons: It's hard to set up a workgroup or a domestic network, but take this with a grain of salt since it's a work in progress. ReactOS is a work in progress and it's at the level of Windows Vista, maybe windows 7 at best, but it will be a long time before it can be as responsive as windows 10/11.

Overall: Good, I even managed to use my GPU, and this is quite impressive for an alpha OS. But there is still a lot to be done, and you will face some issues with remote printing, unless you are and advanced user.
