aka: Earth to Venus... I've got an SK-3500 maxi multi mega combo (why buy crap if you can buy nicely manufactured stuff that will last for ages? Some other candidates: Lindy 42842 and DELOCK 42284). [on my P3/700, that thing has some whopping 37MB/s vs. the internal IDE 2.5" at 26.9MB/s!] SMART access on Firewire actually *works* (see log below, and oh wow those details!), but only when manually specifying -d sat (somewhat of a shame). While there are drivedb.h mechanisms to supply -d flags for cooperative USB IDs ("USB:" prefix, see knowndrives.cpp), I'm afraid there ain't no such thing for Firewire? (git grep -i firewire was "less successful") And if so, do you happen to know something that could be done about it? Thanks, Andreas Mohr smartctl 5.43 2012-06-05 r3561 [i686-linux-3.11.0+] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-12 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Model Family: Western Digital Caviar Green (AF, SATA 6Gb/s) Device Model: WDC WD20EZRX-00DC0B0 Serial Number: WD-WCC3003xxxxx LU WWN Device Id: 5 0014ee 2b31xxxxx Firmware Version: 80.00A80 User Capacity: 2,000,398,934,016 bytes [2.00 TB] Sector Sizes: 512 bytes logical, 4096 bytes physical Device is: In smartctl database [for details use: -P show] ATA Version is: 8 ATA Standard is: ACS-2 (revision not indicated) Local Time is: Mon Sep 16 22:03:27 2013 CEST SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability.
